my sounds....my sequence....my video

I have been through a lot of thought process in regards to making a "time sequence" video. As always i wanted to incorporate my son but then i had doubts . I first i had an idea of recording his different moods in different times. But then I thought about it, it might have been like a documentary, also it was said that there was not documentary allow. So i thought and i thought until i saw Alfred Hichcock's movie....Vertigo. What drew my attention to different highlights of the movie was the specific sounds and music intensity of the movie. So i now want to do a sound video. i wanted to incorporate different types of music and sounds that would intensive the pivital moment of my day. Like for an example the video would start out as a regular morning....but instead of image you will get the music or sound that express how i feel at that time. Then throughout the video you will get a mix of sounds and music that would relate the times that i am happy....aggravated or just bored. I also had a strong idea of combining all my projects together and taking still frame shots on all my pictures then animate it thorugh video. Of course it will have music and sound but i wanted to show the viewer the progress and time of each piece.

Sound Recognition

I have a small written journal that i have written about specific sounds. I try to focus on a new sound everyday and how i react to it. Thought about the sorrounding of the sound or voice. I live in the projects,,,,you know the "ghetto". and most sounds that are frequently heard are the sounds of car stereo systems, teenagers loud profanity to each other and a special feature of loading trucks of "Stop & Shop". There is really no silence...though at times silent is a noise itself. But the sounds that I've notice is the sound of a humming fridge, the rarely heard hissing of a heated radiator. and if you are very quite the thumbing of your temples. At first i was focusing on loud noises but when i paid much more attention to sound, i began to hear things that most people doesnt' pay attention to. My favorite sound thus far is my son's laughter every morning.

Movie Study

Movie Study
The movie that I wanted to present is called "White Chicks". This movie is about two black detectives who had to go undercover as two white females in order to bust a case. After reading the movie vocabulary passage, i was more aware of the editing. I chose the first three minutes of the movie because the actors did a great job imitading latins. And of course me being latin I knew what they were coming from. When it was time to break down the movie and write about the editting it was horrible. Even though breaking down the first three minutes was horrible, i was pretty amazed. Why? becuase i never knew that in just three minutes there was 65 short frames. I now have a new found respect for movie editors. I can't imagine editing a 2-3 hours movie...you can't even blink 'cause every second counts.

Making Movie

When I started making my raw footage, I thought about the beginning of “White Chicks”. It started out with arial view of a city then proceeded to get closer into the city. I was trying to improvise with what I had, but the only problem I had was that I had no comedians. So I decided to record my son. I am not the best camera recording person but I do like to record. When I go my macbook I was concern about imovie because I had no experience. Once I began to play with it there was no stopping me. I just wish my footage was clearer.

The Result of my imovies

For the most part I was happy with it. Not completely satisfied but happy. After I viewed some of my classmates work I was impressed with few of them. Maybe some of them have had experience with a camcorder and imovie or maybe it was pure dedication. My favorite one was “The Break Up” Although it did not had much sound but the editing was great. Also was the “music video” clip. The images were crisps and it did look like a music video by the way it was edited and recorded.

My influences as an artist

When I was younger I was heavily influenced by Disney movies. The colors, the characters, the clothing, it was everything that Disney created. I remember drawing from Disney’s coloring books or valentine’s cards and showing it off to my family. They thought I traced it. That I even motivated me to draw more and show them that I do have talent. Drawing from Disney’s character helped built my inner desire of becoming an artist and maybe one day working for them.

The main influence of becoming an artist is God. He is the creator of all things. He’s the artist that made roses red, made the rainbow, the beautiful forests and every creature under the sea. It amazes me the vivid colors that he created that we so much try to imitate. If it wasn’t for the art and creation of God then there wouldn’t be any artists. Artists are mostly influence with the serenity of landscapes or the different colors of fruits and vegetables. If it wasn’t for God’s wonderful color palette or creation, then what would have influence the first human artists??

The dark booth

This was a rather mind blowing thing. I didn't think that such an old invention would be a cool thing to interact with. Well i know that if it was not for this invention then obviously the digital world of today would have not existed. But I am glad to have experience this dark booth with the small aperture because i don't think i would have experience this anywhere else. So thanks to my teacher and all of those who made this happen. I now have a better sense of appreciation of the history in photography.

the dark room with the pin hole #2

This time i had a much more better experience in the larger room. Forget about the 1st post i put up. This was a much more positive feedback. In my second trip the image was much more clear because it was 12:30 in the afternoon and the sun was beaming inside the courtyard. So not only was the image clear in the bigger wall but you can see a detailed imaged a piece of paper. My classmate and I was playing around with the pin hole by placing a blank paper in front of it. And discovered that there was color in the image. we moved the paper further and closer to the hole and the image projected smaller or bigger. I was amazed at this low tech device that it was more entertaining then my phone camera. I still don't get how an image can portray upside down even through a small hole that has noting in front nor in the back of it. I can understand that that's how we see but our eyes have layers but a tin pin whole doesn't

light study comment

It was 8 in the morning and my son had me awake since five. Of course at five o'clock it's still dark outside. So when it was 8 i went to the kitchen to make my son a bottle of warm milk. Until i was awakened by this random and beautiful strip of white light. i then decided to take a picture of it because i never really notice a light casting such as this one. I noticed that the light was limited by the edges of the shades thus creating this ray of light. Usually I am more interested in shadows. There's was an ironic movement of this light. It was almost portraying like the shadow of the shade edges but then again it was light. What intrigued me the most of capturing this moment was no just the light itself, but it's movement and the different sizes it casts when the sun moves and the personality it had as if mocking the shadow that wasn't there.

The dark room with the pin hole

In today's class we experiecenced an old fashion aperature exhibition. At first I thought i was going to see a better image on the wall but it was so strainful to my eyes i had to close them a couple of secounds. then i open them again but then i just started seeing whites spots. so one of my classmate pointed out the image on the wall and i saw what was a really bad blurr of mass art court yard that was upsidedown. She then suggested we would see it better on the white paper and there was the image. It was really cool. My eyes were not straining at all and it almost reminds me of a really old old photograph. Since the image was upside down, i saw a different image just the way it is. I saw a aftermath of a concentration camp. i don't know how this image remind me of that, but just as my eyes were reading the negative and positive space it looks like the rubbish of a bombed building. But besides this odd reminder, the whole experience was quite pleasing.
